Obituary of Leslie Dale Laughlin

LESLIE DALE LAUGHLIN Leslie Dale Laughlin, 69 years of age, passed away on Thursday July 20th, 2017 at his home in El Dorado, California. He was born on May 22nd, 1948 in Huron, South Dakota to Dale and Wilma Laughlin. Leslie grew up in South Dakota, Montana, and California; and he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his father Dale. As a child, he spent summers on his grandparent’s farm in Hitchcock, South Dakota. He graduated from Coalinga High school in Coalinga, California in 1966. After high school he attended College at West Hills College in Coalinga, California from 1966-1968. Leslie joined the Navy USN in 1968 and served actively for 6 years. He served in the Vietnam War as a Navy Minesweeper and was stationed at the Naval Station in Pearl Harbor, HI. He was the recipient of First Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Vietnam Service Medal. He was Honorable Discharged in 1974, achieving the rank of Electronic Technician (Radar) Petty Officer 3rd Class, and received his Electricity and Electronic Certification by US Navy. Leslie returned to American River College in Sacramento where he finished and received his Certificate in Management Business in 1980. He began work for Sacramento Army Depot as Electronic Tech from 1981 to 1988. From 1988 to 2014 he worked as Electronic Engineer and Instructor specializing in AutoCAD. Since 2015, he helped at Gold Hill Winery where he enjoyed serving wine to the local residents of El Dorado County. Les was married to Ruth Lynn Hagen on April 29th, 1990 in Placerville, California. They were happily married for 27 years. Leslie enjoyed helping his family, working in his garden, playing Frisbee golf, playing computer games, and drinking a good Port. Les was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Wilma Laughlin and grandparents Dewey and Elsie Mortimer. Les is survived by his spouse Ruth Laughlin; his step son Edward Hagen and spouse Jennifer Hagen; his step daughter Mae Lohan and spouse Gary Lohan; his step daughter Melody Courtney and spouse Joshua Courtney; his sister Linda Piers and spouse Joe Piers; his sister Laura Majewski and spouse Steve Majewski; his grandchildren- Arielle Mcmurtry, Abigail Mcmurty, Juliet Hagen, Chrystle Hagen, Rachel Rodda and spouse Cody Rodda, Hannah Lohan, Daniel Wheelwright, Cassidy Wheelwright; his nieces-Mellody Baldwin and Spouse Chris Baldwin, Kelly Hausauer, Katy Majewski; his nephews- Bryan Piers, Kyle Hausauer; great nephew Ashton Baldwin. A memorial service will be held at Gold Hill Vineyard- 5660 Vineyard Lane Placerville, CA 95667 on Sunday August 13th, 2017 at 5pm to Celebrate his Life. Burial will follow for immediate family at Sacramento Valley National VA Cemetery in Dixon, Ca.
